Santa Hand Print- DIY Clay Ornament
I’ve seen these all over pinterest and really wanted a special ornament to hang on the tree for Jocelynn and Jp’s first Christmas. It was super easy and I am so glad I did them!
- 1 cup of flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup water
Mix all the ingredients together until a dough forms. Roll onto floured surface. I didn’t roll it out too thin because I only had two hands to do so I kept it pretty thick. After desired thickness take the hand and imprint into the dough. This part was the hard part!! Trying to get almost one year olds to do a prefect hand is almost impossible! They kept pinching the dough every time! hah!
After you have the handprint you want put it into a 200 degree oven for 3-4 hours. I probably went closer to 4 hours if not over.
I let my handprints “rest” over the next 12 hours before painting. Some people just paint the handprint itself so you can see the actual hand better but I decided to do the cute Santa!!
After I painted I wrote on the back their names, the year and the fact it was their first Christmas!! I think ill be doing this again next year to see the difference in their handprints!!
