I have many favorite vacation spots. Gulf shores, Panama City Beach, Gatlinburg and many more! Im going to tell you about one spot that I loved and it also happens to be my favorite vacation. Maybe because that’s when Matt asked me to marry him!
We went to Boone, NC 6 (or 7) years ago with two other couples! We were all such great friends and had an absolute ball! We rented a huge SUV to travel up there together and had rented a cabin close to Ski mountain. It was so gorgeous up there! We don’t get a lot of snow (usually) in Alabama; so every time we do see snow, it is like we are kids all over again.
I remember going out that first day and being terrified of the ski lifts. I am so unbelievably scared of heights. I rode up with my friend Jenn and the others paired into twos too. Me and Jenn weren’t so sure about going so high for our first time down but the others wanted to, so why not? While going up the ski lift, we couldn’t help but notice how much higher we were getting. I mean those things aren’t very fast but they do go sky high! We watched the first set jump onto the ramp and ski down. Then the second and then it was our turn. I was scared to death. You have to land on this little ramp and ski down it before going out to the “main course”. Me and Jenn both hesitated for some reason and were going to end up missing the ramp. We both just decided to jump because we didn’t want to go any higher (not thinking it would go back down). I grabbed her hand and she grabbed mine and we counted to 3. I think we jumped at 1. We landed on top of each other. I thought I broke her leg. We looked up to everyone asking if we were ok. When we replied “we are fine” everyone proceeded to laugh hysterically. Oh, how I love those moments that are so stupid they turn into a hilarious memory. We still laugh about that all the time.
I think it was the second night we were there that Matt proposed to me. It might had been the first night but he swears by it being the second. I remember we were all unpacking and getting things organized. We all put on our fun jammies and were going to play cards and games. They asked me to come into the main living area. I told them no, that I was packing. They screamed at me to come and I finally caved. I went into the den and Matt said he needed to talk to me. My friend Brooke ended up filming this whole thing. Maybe I will show yall one day. Anyways, I asked “what’s wrong?” Then he got down on his knee and told me how much he loved me. That he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and then asked me to be his wife. I literally thought they were all playing a cruel joke on me. I didn’t answer. I kept saying “What? You’re kidding, right?” After making me realize that he was indeed not kidding, he asked me again. Yall know how that turned out! It was such a great night! I called my family and friends right after it happened to let them all know we were FINALLY engaged. It only took 6 years!
I had never been snow skiing before this trip. We water ski a lot but snow skiing was completely different. I loved it! The first couple of days it was the fake snow which formed into ice sometimes and would cause your ski’s to stick and I did not like that! The last night we were there it snowed over 5 inches within minutes. That fresh powdery snow was so much fun to ski on! I loved it!
We stayed until after New Years day. We had a great time exploring the area and ate some yummy food! I will never forget this trip. It was filled with friends, laughter, games, and so much more!
